The M/V Solmar V liveaboard is a staple for diving in the Socorro Islands. With over 25 years of experience and known for having the most experienced dive liveaboard crew in Mexico, the Solmar V caters to 22 guests in 12 cabins. With recent refurbishing and massive upgrades, the SolmarV offers the choice of Staterooms, superior, standard, and single cabin options for solo travelers. Each stateroom features individual climate control, a private bathroom with a shower, a pillow-top mattress, non-allergenic down alternative pillows, and comforters. Superior cabins are located in the middle of the boat and are slightly larger. With its rich mahogany and granite tabletops, the salon provides comfortable seating, a large-screen television, and a full entertainment system. The solarium is partially covered with sun loungers for relaxing in between dives.
The Solmar V offers exciting dive itineraries with some of the world's giant pelagics, from Giant Mantas to whale sharks and humpback whales. The Revillagigedo Archipelago offers all the big-fish encounters a diver could wish for. With over 10 shark species, playful dolphins, and even the chance to dive with orcas, the Socorro Islands will deliver a dive trip to remember for a lifetime. 8 days aboard Solar V
I really enjoyed the trip aboard the Solmar V. The crew was very solicitous and accommodating, the marine life is spectacular, and the food was excellent. Definitely on my list to do again.

Amazing 10-day liveaboard trip to Revillagigedo on Solmar V with fantastic crew!
The staff really made this trip. Idris was incredible for entertaining and serving and the chef was also outstanding. The dive guides Arturo, Kike, and Camila were all fabulous divemasters. We experienced bad weather that delayed our departure to the islands, but the trip made up for it by taking us to Cabo Pulmo for a day of diving to make up for this day of missed diving in the islands. The cabin comfort was not the best, especially being on the top bunk there was about a foot of room below the ceiling, but with very limited time in the rooms, this didn't matter too much. The only downside of this trip was that people kept chasing animals away with their cameras and there were no repercussions for this. The dive group was reminded every day to not chase animals away and they still did. I wish that they would've had to sit out a dive or leave their cameras behind for a dive as a repercussion for continuing to chase things away, as this took away from everyone else who didn't get to see as many animals. All in all, this was well worth my money for the value of diving, and I would definitely return on another Solmar trip in the future on this boat with this crew.

Not what we expected or accustomed to on a Liveaboard.
I initially book this Liveaboard primarily based on the Sale price and the 8.6 rating. Our overall experience; however, on the Solmar V was disappoiting several fronts: cabin minimal storage, section of the twin mattress against the bulkhead felt like sleeping on a board, linens never changed during the week nor was the room trash can emptied, meals had little flavor and selections were limited, 2 meals were literally duplicate, the pangas leaked air and required inflation and sometimes bailing water. Boat is old and shows it. On the bright side the diving and pelagics encountered were amazing.

Okay boat doesn't stop this being an amazing trip
Tired boat, pretty small and cramped. Old pangas struggling to keep up. Staff brilliantly worked hard to offset the downsides, and the diving is as good as it gets. Ultimately, we didn't do the whole itinerary due to various on board issues, but we did dive El Cañon 8 times to ongoing astonishment. I am aware that boat options are limited, and it got us there and back, but it really needs a massive refurb to complement it's incredible crew and opportunities.

Great crew - nice diving!
Boat is a bit worn and old. They started the cruise with only 1 generator which broke down causing us to loose 2 dives. Fantastic crew and dive masters made up for it!

Great diving, great crew, but the boat wasn’t the best.
The diving was great and the crew was super friendly and hard working. They definitely went above and beyond to make the trip enjoyable. We saw the giant mantas on nearly every dive as well as tons of sharks and the famously friendly dolphins which came and interacted with the group while on the dives. There were humpbacks all around the boat though we never saw them on dives. The dive guides were all first rate and did a great job of leading us on safe dives where we got to experience the wonder that is the Revillagigedo Archipelago The downside is that the Solmar V is definitely showing its age. The rooms are very small with not enough space for more than one person to be in there at a time. Unfortunately our room had a leaky shower which meant the carpet was wet when we got in there and stayed wet for the whole trip. This meant we had to keep The A/C on all the time to keep the room from smelling of mildew which made the room really cold.

Beyond my wildest dreams!
OMG, is such an understatement! I just returned from diving in the Revillagigedo Archipelago aboard the Solmar V. Beyond my wildest dreams! This was SCUBA, that I grew up watching Jaques Cousteau dive. Beautiful Giant Pacific Manta Rays on almost every dive. Schools of Hammerhead Sharks. Playful Bottlenose Dolphins. World class diving. The Divemasters! Mariana Danny & Servando were the best. Under the water and above. Such hard working fabulous folks. The whole crew was great. The stewards, Idris & Dani were everywhere! Hot tea, hot chocolate after dives, fabulous & attentive. Oue chef, Claudia was a rock star. I like GOOD food, hers is the best! All day, everyday. Four of us celebrated birthdays while on board. She made special birthday celebration deserts for each. The Captain Armando, always available for information or a hand betting up from the banga boat after your dive. I could go on and on about each crew member. I will never forget them. I absolutely need to thank Luis! Helping haul my waterlogged self, back into the banga after EVERY dive, thank you sir! What about the other divers! 20 other divers from all over the world, such wonderful, beautiful people. I deal with significant hearing difficulties and everyone, guests and crew were the best, patient and took time to sincerely chat with me. Thank you ALL for helping fulfill a lifelong dream. Love you all. Pete

If you're up for some pretty hard core diving, it's a fantastic way to get close to these big animals.
Really well organised trip, and very smooth on the diving front despite number of divers on a relatively small boat. The dive guides are crew are incredibly hard working (actually I would say over-worked), but always up for a laugh and a friendly smile. Briefings were very good, and the talks on mantas, shark identification, and conservation efforts (including Clarion angelfish) were excellent. But of course the highlights were the close encounters with giant mantas, sharks and dolphins.

- Awesome close encounters with mantas, sharks, dolphins. Really friendly and helpful dive guides and crew members. Good food, and plenty of it; and nice touches like hot drinks after each dive.
